Reader's Review:
It is 1957 in Okahumpka, Florida. A society mother of three claims to have been sexually assaulted during a home invasion while her husband was away on business. A racist Sheriff has grabbed a mentally handicapped black teenager and charged this 16 year old with the crime, but a local journalist, Mable Reese, has noticed there are major inconsistencies between the description of the attacker and the youth. You might think this is a plot for a crime novel, but these events actually occurred and author Gilbert King chilling chronicles the brave fight by Ms. Reese and his devoted mother to save Jesse Daniels from either the electric chair or lifelong imprisonment for mental incompetency. Besides saving Jesse Mr. King reminds us of the importance of local newspaper reporters. -Abbot G.
