Museum Pass Policy

A museum pass can be borrowed by a Scotch Plains resident adult cardholder in good standing. The lending period for museum passes is three (3) days. Passes must be returned to a staff member at the Adult Services desk during normal library hours. They must not be returned in the book drop.

To reserve and pick up a museum pass:

  • Reservations can be made online by the cardholder up to 30 days in advance.
  • The reservation date may need to be the day before the planned museum visit, as the Library does not open until 9:30am and is closed on Sundays and some major holidays.
  • Passes must be picked up promptly on the reservation date at the Adult Services desk; reservations will not be held after the reservation date.
  • The cardholder who makes the reservation must be the person who picks up the pass, and they present their library card at the time of checkout.
  • There is a limit of one pass per card, and members of the same household cannot reserve multiple passes for the same museum at the same time.
  • As a courtesy to fellow residents, we ask that cardholders wait 30 days before borrowing the same pass again.

An overdue fine of $10 will be charged per day. On the 7th day after the due date, the pass will be considered lost, and the cardholder will be charged the full replacement cost, which varies by museum. Instances of lateness or loss of passes may result in a six-month suspension of museum pass privileges for the household. Repeated instances may result in permanent suspension.

It is the cardholder’s responsibility to be aware of any museum updates on hours, exhibits, and any other special procedures. Museums may require or encourage timed-entry tickets, so please check with the museum before your visit.

Each museum pass has distinct criteria regarding how many people are covered by the pass and whether there are any additional benefits. These are outlined in our list of museums and in the case for each pass.
